RISE after School

RISE after School is our volunteer peer mentoring program that matches senior high school students with elementary school mentees.

RISE after School is a peer mentorship program for high school students to mentor an elementary school student. This mentorship program is designed to provide both academic and social supports that will enrich both the mentor and the mentee.

As a mentor, you will be giving valuable insights to what life in high school is like, help with schoolwork and be a positive role model for your mentee.

What we need from Mentors 

Mentors will be asked to commit to one half hour mentorship meeting per week, plus initial training sessions of likely 1.5 hours in durationThe meetings will be held online so you will need access to a computer and a reliable internetWe require two letters of reference OR the contact information of those two references: one teacher and one prior work or volunteer supervisorPlease contact info@ldsociety.ca for an application. 


Who is the program for?

Mentor students will be in grade 11 or 12 at participating secondary schools.

Mentee students will be from participating elementary schoools.

Where is it offered?

RISE after School will take place online only until further notice.

When are lessons?

Schedule will be determined based on school and student needs, as well as physical distancing and health and safety needs. Generally sessions are after school (3p,m-5pm) and on Saturdays.

RISE after School is a volunteer program facilitated and supervised by LDS free of charge for all participants.
