Empowering Learners with Assistive Technology

At LDS, our one-to-one programs (RISE One-to-One, Teen Mentorship, and Adult Learning Program) use assistive technology (AT) to equip learners with the tools to succeed.

What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive technology includes devices, software, or equipment designed to support individuals with disabilities, including learning differences. AT empowers and engages individuals and improves accessibility for our learners.

Why Use Assistive Technology?

AT benefits learners by:

  • Providing Accessibility: Ensuring equal opportunities to learn.
  • Fostering Independence: Empowering learners to overcome challenges.
  • Boosting Engagement: Encouraging active participation.
  • Improving Outcomes: Enhancing academic, emotional, and social growth.

AT complements teaching and can significantly support those with learning differences, opening pathways to success.

How LDS Uses Assistive Technology

We integrate AT to enhance teaching and learning by:

  • Customizing Plans: Aligning AT tools with individual needs.
  • Enhancing Engagement: Making learning more accessible and inclusive.
  • Addressing Holistic Needs: Supporting academic, social, and emotional growth.

  • Speech to text: Speechify, Word Dictate
  • Reading support: BeeLine Reader, Read&Write
  • Adaptive tools: large format keyboards, wobble stools, wobble cushions
