Bachelor of Arts in Speech Sciences

Mel (she/her) has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Sciences from the University of British Columbia. She has developed a strong interest in language acquisition and child development. For nearly a decade, she has worked both directly and indirectly with neurodiverse learners of all ages across various contexts, including nonprofit, educational, and employment support settings. Passionate about inclusive education, Mel believes in the importance of accessible services for learners at all stages of life, ensuring everyone has equitable opportunities to thrive. Having ADHD herself, Mel is particularly passionate about working with neurodiverse individuals, and she is dedicated to creating environments where everyone’s unique needs are valued and supported.

As a Case Manager, Mel empowers others to develop their skills and encourages a creative, solution-focused mindset to meet learners’ needs. She leverages her background in speech sciences to support social communication and early intervention programs. She also uses her interest in educational assessments to help learners and families better understand their strengths and the support required to reach their full potential.

Outside of work, Mel enjoys a variety of creative hobbies, such as sewing and crafting, and exploring the natural beauty of British Columbia through hiking and camping.
