What’s new in 2023-24

A letter from our Executive Director, Rachel Forbes.

I am pleased to share some news and important updates to enhance your experience and ensure accessibility for all learners and families.

From platform change to a new fee structure, in this letter, you will find information on what will look different in the next school year.

Please know that our team is always striving to provide the best experience possible for you and your learner(s) and the many hundreds of other families we serve. We appreciate your time, patience and constructive feedback on your experience as we try to balance the needs and wants of many deserving members of our LDS community.

1. Platform Migration to TeachWorks

To provide you with an improved user experience, we are excited to announce that we have migrated to a new platform called TeachWorks. This platform will enable you to easily access your lessons, session snapshots, mid and end-of-year reporting, and document management. We believe this change will significantly enhance your interaction with our programs and services.

If you are a returning family, please watch your email inbox for detailed instructions on navigating the transition to TeachWorks. Our team will provide all the necessary guidance, videos and FAQ to ensure a smooth transition.

2. Fees and Income Scale

LDS continues to offer consistent, high-quality service and individualized learning, providing you with an experienced instructor who best meets your / your child’s needs. For the 2023/24 academic school year, we are broadening our household income sliding scale thresholds to keep our programs and services accessible.

We have also introduced a set monthly fee schedule to offer greater convenience and simplicity for our families. Please be aware that there have been slight increases in the hourly-equivalent rates for the top levels of our new, modified household income fee scale only.

I invite you to read this article to gain further insight into how we set fees for our programs and work toward substantive equality for our students and families while still keeping our rates well below market for any comparable, comprehensive education program.

3. Update on Session Times

Please note the following updates and reminders about your scheduled sessions.

  • Weekday sessions will now take place on the half-hour. Previously sessions started on the hour (3:00, 4:00, etc.). Sessions will now start on the half-hour (3:30, 4:30, etc.). This change applies to weekday one-to-one sessions.
  • Saturday sessions will still take place on the hour (9:00, 10:00, etc.).
  • Sessions are 50 minutes long, and students must be picked up promptly at the end of their session.

We are committed to transparency and ensuring these changes positively impact your experience with LDS. Our team is ready to assist you if you have any questions or require further clarification. Feel free to contact our office; we will gladly provide the support you need: 604.873.8139 or info@ldsociety.ca.

We look forward to embarking on or continuing this transformative journey with you and your child. Thank you for entrusting us with their education. We are confident that the 2023-24 year will be filled with growth, positive energy and remarkable achievements.

Yours in community,

Rachel Forbes, Executive Director, LDS
