UBC Early Years Conference Highlights

This past week, some of our team attended the UBC Early Years conference, “Connecting and Belonging in the Early Years.” It was an excellent opportunity to connect and learn from early years professionals nationwide. Here are some highlights: 

1. Our Early RISErs Program Manager, Marlo Humiski, presented our one-of-a-kind program, “Inclusive Early Years Intervention Strategies to Enhance Learning and Development: Early RISErs Program.” There were approximately 80 individuals in attendance, and we were excited to make new connections after the presentation. 

2. We listened to a fantastic keynote presentation, “Stitching a New Garment: An Early Years System for All Families,” by Dr. Ripudaman Minhas, Developmental Pediatrician Women’s and Children’s Health Program at St. Michael’s Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Toronto. We were thrilled to have a chance to talk to Dr. Minhas about the connections between his work and our work at breaking down barriers to learning support, and we have since been in contact to find where synergies may lie.  

3. Rural families across BC are looking for more learning support! We met many teachers and community leaders who were excited to hear about RISE at Home, our robust one-to-one support available to learners regardless of where they live.
