Gladys Rosencrans
Indigenous Elder and Educator
My name is Gladys Rosencrans, but the name given to me by the Grandmothers is Brown Bear Woman. I am a proud Metis/Cree woman, originally from Manitoba, but have been welcomed on the Coast Salish traditional and unceded territory for several decades. I have been blessed to be a wife, mother and kookum.
I retired after a 40-year career as a teacher and administrator in Special and then Indigenous Education. I currently work as an Indigenous Elder with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, First Nations Health Authority, Métis Family Services, and Siyá:ye Yoyes, an inter-district educators group.
