Laura (she/her) is a BC certified teacher who has taught with the Vancouver School Board since 1997. She has taught numerous subjects, including ELL Reading and Writing (focusing on Level 1 students), Skills at the secondary level, Desktop Publishing, and Jewellery Design. She also spent many years teaching Visual Art in grades K-12. In addition to her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr and her Bachelor of Education in Visual Art from UBC, Laura holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education from Queens University, focusing on supporting learners on the Autism and Fetal Alcohol spectrums. Laura is experienced in supporting learning in Literacy (Grades K to University English courses) and Early, Primary, and Early Intermediate Numeracy. She specializes in learners with complex learning needs, including learners who do best when they have a teacher as an ‘external brain’ to help them co-regulate and manage the behaviours that may keep them from having great days at school.
In addition to being a teacher, Laura is also an only parent to two teens and one young adult who have all gone through/are going through the VSB learning system. The middle and eldest children attend university, while the youngest is in Grade 12.
