Garland Joseph (they/them) received a BA from Lewis and Clark College and is a graduate student in the Master of Library and Information Studies program at the University of British Columbia. With over three years of experience in education, Garland has developed critical skills in supporting students’ literacy development. In 2021, Garland worked as a Literacy Intervention Assistant, helping students build foundational reading skills. From 2022 to 2024, they served as a school librarian, leading classes and small reading groups focused on enhancing fluency and comprehension. As someone who struggled with reading due to dyslexia, Garland is passionate about helping young readers gain critical literacy skills. In their free time, Garland enjoys collecting picture books (Christian Robinson’s work is a favourite) and birding.
